Keratosis Pilaris, often known as KP, is a common skin condition that causes small, rough bumps on the skin.
These bumps can sometimes feel dry or rough and are commonly found on areas such as the arms, thighs, buttocks and cheeks.
KP occurs when keratin, a natural protein found in the skin, builds up and blocks hair follicles. This can create the small bumps and uneven texture often associated with the condition.
KP Isn’t Dirty Skin
One of the biggest misconceptions about KP is that rough or bumpy skin needs aggressive scrubbing.
This isn’t true.
Harsh scrubbing can irritate the skin and may make it feel more uncomfortable. Gentle, consistent skincare is often a better approach.
